THE NIGHTS OF STRAPAROLA ILLUSTRATED BY EDWARD ROBERT HUGHES, Volume II

Not much is known of Straparola's life save for a few facts regarding his published works. He was likely born some time around 1485 in Caravaggio, Italy (on the Lombard plain east of Milan). However, nothing more is known of his life until 1508 when he is found to be in Venice where he signed his name "Zoan" on the title page of his Opera nova de Zoan Francesco Straparola da Caravaggio novamente stampata (New Works).

THE NIGHTS OF STRAPAROLA ILLUSTRATED BY EDWARD ROBERT HUGHES, Volume I

Edward Robert Hughes RWS (5 November 1851 – 23 April 1914) was a British painter, who primarily worked in watercolours, but also produced a number of oil paintings. He was influenced by his uncle and artist, Arthur Hughes who was associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and worked closely with one of the Brotherhood's founders, William Holman Hunt. E.R. Hughes

Giovanni Francesco "GianfrancescoStraparola, also known as Zoan or Zuan Francesco Straparola da Caravaggio (ca. 1485?-1558), was an Italian writer of poetry, and collector and writer of short stories.[3] Some time during his life, he migrated from Caravaggio to Venice[4] where he published a collection of stories in two volumes called The Facetious Nights or The Pleasant Nights. This collection includes some of the first known printed versions of fairy tales in Europe, as they are known today.

THE FIR-TREE FAIRY BOOK illustrated by ALEXANDER POPINI

Alexander Popini (1878 - 1962) was a Romanian-born american illustrator.  It is known that he married in the UK in 1903. Possibly entered the USA via Ellis Island in 1911. Illustrated books and some motoring postcards.

The drawings of Romanian-born illustrator and sculptor Alexander Popini (1878-1962) graced many magazines of the 1920s, both "little" and popular, including Pearson's MagazineThe Century, and The Masses. In addition, he produced art for advertisements and illustrated several books including Vilhjalmur Steffanson's Ultima Thule: Further Mysteries of the Arctic (1940). Popini was fascinated by aviation and in 1916 he sculpted a hydro-aeromaid figure as a trophy for that year's New York Flying Yacht Club race around Manhattan. He served in the Royal Air Force during World War I.
