THE FIR-TREE FAIRY BOOK illustrated by ALEXANDER POPINI

Alexander Popini (1878 - 1962) was a Romanian-born american illustrator.  It is known that he married in the UK in 1903. Possibly entered the USA via Ellis Island in 1911. Illustrated books and some motoring postcards.

The drawings of Romanian-born illustrator and sculptor Alexander Popini (1878-1962) graced many magazines of the 1920s, both "little" and popular, including Pearson's MagazineThe Century, and The Masses. In addition, he produced art for advertisements and illustrated several books including Vilhjalmur Steffanson's Ultima Thule: Further Mysteries of the Arctic (1940). Popini was fascinated by aviation and in 1916 he sculpted a hydro-aeromaid figure as a trophy for that year's New York Flying Yacht Club race around Manhattan. He served in the Royal Air Force during World War I.
