Hope Dunlap: Illustrations for The Pied Piper of Hamlin by Robert Browning

Hope Dunlap was an American artist who was born in Topeka, Kansas in 1881. He is known for his illustrations of children's books: Grimm's Fairy Tales, The Little Lame Prince and His Travelling Cloak 1909, The Muffin Shop. Despite of several reprints of books with illustrations by Hope Dunlap, there isn't a lot of information on his life in the internet.

And bit the babies in the cradles

At last the people in a body to the Town Hall came flocking

"Come in!" - the Mayor cried, looking bigger: And in did come the strangest figure!"

From street to street he piped advancing...

And step for step they followed dancing.

The little boys and girls ran merrily after.

The wonderful music with shouting and laughter.

 A wondrous portal opened wide.

And never hear of that country more!
