Christoph Roos - Master of the fairy tale illustration

Christoph Roos and I are like old "dinosaurs". He wrote
the introduction of my Artbook (see left column).
I have found an old Comicpage on which we had worked
together. The pencilwork is from Christoph an the inkwork
from me. This Comic never was completed but the artist-
friendship survived!
Now Christoph has also its own blog:

Vintage Switzerland

By Hans Conrad Escher von der Linth: "Before leaving that narrow, winding and wild part of the St.Niklaus Valley to enter the plain of Zermatt, one suddenly has a view, beyond the left-hand side of the valley, of the Matterhorn, which is big and striking beyond all description: never in the whole chain of the Alps have I seen so steep and high a rock pyramid...

The beauty of the swiss mountains has also secured many artist an income!
Unfortunately this tradition went lost and the photography dominates the market.

"John William Godward" 1861-1922

John William Godward was a sensitive artist. His unfulfilled
longing for "Arkadien" has us leave innumerable paintings
abaout the classic beauty woman from a past ancient time.
Almost in each of its paintings returns the same motiv and
whe found again and again the repetition of marble and
leopardskins. More about John William Godward you find here.

"The Coast by Santo Domingo D.R."

Years ago, after I had enough to spend the time on a plastic
chair in the shadow (my wife Tina was born in "Santo"),
I packed (finally!) my Oilcolors and walk the ten minutes
footpath to the near coast. I was not long alone there why
the dominican peoples no have work and many of them
must life in poverty! One of these young Dominican men
explain his girlfriend my worksteps and another afternoon
trick me a small impudent cancer into my heel!
Sometimes it rains also in the Caribbian (the second
studio-version),,,

"Antonio Basoli - Alfabeto Pittorico" 1893

In Bologna, in 1839, the decorative artist Antonio Basoli published his Alfabeto Pittorico, ossia raccolta di pensieri pittorici composti di oggetti comincianti dalle singole lettere alfabetiche (‘Pictorial Alphabet, or, a collection of pictorial thoughts composed of objects beginning with the individual letters of the alphabet’). This was an album of twenty-five elaborate lithographs, each one featuring an alphabetical character cast in some fantastic architectural form, in a setting contrived to illustrate any number of figures and objects for which there were Italian words beginning with that same letter. A commentary in Italian and French explained the contents of the plates. Below are details from the lithographs representing the five vowels from this alphabet (plus one other additional image), scanned from a reproduction of the Alfabeto Pittorico issued in 1998 by Ravensburger, with translations of Basoli’s text into German and English, and with additional commentary and notes by Joseph Kiermeier-Debre and Fritz Franz Vogel.
