RONALD SEARLE: Haven't We Met Before Somewhere?

Ronald William Fordham Searle, CBE, RDI (3 March 1920 – 30 December 2011) was an English artist and satirical cartoonist, comics artist and illustrator.

We show his cartoons for Haven't We Met Before Somewhere?, 1966.
Searle, concerning himself with the visual probe, travelling for six years, sometimes two or three times a year, up and down Western Germany, sometimes over the Wall into East Berlin, has produced an album of drawings that may prove to be his most brilliant yet. In Germany, where some of these drawings have recenty been published in a magazine, opinions differ :... the insolent smears of a Searle; caricature should critisize errors in a friendly way but not spit in ones face.
...I find Searle's drawing magnificient and pertinent. A small contribution against the widespread opinion that we Germans are incapable of laughing at ourselves.
