The Rainbow Book illustrated by Arthur Rackham, Hugh Thomson, Bernard Partridge, Lewis Baumer, Harry Rountree, C. Wilhelm

Arthur Rackham (1867 – 1939) is widely regarded as one of the leading illustrators from the 'Golden Age' of British book illustration which roughly encompassed the years from 1890 until the end of the First World War.

Hugh Thomson (1860 -1920) was an Irish Illustrator born at Coleraine near Londonderry. He is best known for his pen-and-ink illustrations of works by authors such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and J. M. Barrie.

Sir John Bernard Partridge (1861 – 1945) was an English illustrator. In 1891 he joined the staff of Punch  and, in 1910, became its chief cartoonist. During his time at Punch, Partridge published several cartoons showing his support for the Suffragist movement. He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and of The Pastel Society. In 1915, he designed World War I posters.

Lewis Christopher Edward Baumer (1870 – 1963) was an English caricaturist who worked for more than fifty years for the British magazine Punch.
He had studied at the St John's Wood Art School under A. A. Calderon, at the Roya Academy of Arts, and at the Royal College of Art. His first drawings appeared in the Pall Mall magazine in 1893; in 1897, his first cartoon in Punch appeared. In 1921, he was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.

Harry Rountree (1878 – 1950)was a prolific illustrator working in England around the turn of the 20th century. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, he moved to London in 1901, when he was 23 years old. Rountree produced well-liked cartoons for the magazine Punch from 1905 to 1939, and also created advertising, posters and book illustrations for writers such as P. G. Wodehouse and Arthur Conan Doyle. Largely forgotten, and living in poverty, Rountree died in St Ives, Cornwall in 1950.

William John Charles Pitcher (21 March 1858 – 2 March 1925), known as Wilhelm or C. Wilhelm, was an English artist, costume and scenery designer, best known for his designs for ballets, pantomimes, comic operas, and Edwardian musical comedies. In his last years, he focused on watercolour painting, especially of flowers and plant life, and illustrating children's books, including The Child of the Air, and he was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1920.
